Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio is hoping to live out a lifelong dream very soon, and compete for legendary Mexican promotion AAA.
“Before I even started wrestling and training, it was always a dream of mine to be able to wrestle in Mexico with AAA, as part of AAA, because I’ve always wanted to continue the Mysterio legacy and do it better than he did in every way, shape, and form,” he told veteran wrestling reporter Jimmy Varsallone [h/t Wrestle Purists].
“I am currently in the WWE and I’m already better than Rey Mysterio, right? I would love to go to AAA and cement my legacy there and make it better than what he had already done,” he added. “I’m going down to AAA and s*** all over Rey Mysterio so the name that you remember coming out of AAA, Mexico, WWE, whatever, TNA, anything — you hear the word Mysterio, you think Dominik Mysterio.”
The IC champ heading south of the border to compete for AAA is very possible now, and soon. WWE revealed last month that they had acquired the company. And announced a Worlds Collide event for early next month that will see AAA talent face their counterparts in NXT. Mysterio could certainly be added to that card despite being a main roster talent. The 2025 edition of Money in the Bank goes down a few hours after World Collide.
The Judgment Day member’s father, Rey Mysterio, first made a name for himself in AAA during the 1990s. That success led to appearances in ECW and then eventually jumping to WCW. There, he would become a household name with wrestling fans.
Dominick Mysterio does not have his next opponent set. He scored a victory in his first title defense over Penta at Backlash this past weekend.
