Ahead Of New Day’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Big E Offers Disappointing Outlook On Return To Wrestling

While Big E is expected to take part in tonight’s New Day 10th anniversary celebration on WWE Raw, new comments from the former WWE Champion seem to indicate his wrestling career is probably over.

The formation of the New Day was a last-ditch effort to save several careers that ended up creating a legendary team. When the trio of Big E, Xavier Woods, and Kofi Kingston formed an unlikely alliance in 2014, expectations were fairly low. However, it wasn’t long before their undeniable ability to entertain would begin to show.

Over the next few years, they would build a legacy that places them among the greatest tag teams in WWE history. Yet, unlike many other teams, they did not need to break up to go on to have singles success. Over the last five years, both Kofi Kingston and Big E won the WWE Championship. And Xavier Woods won the King of the Ring.

However, the history of the group was forever changed when E broke his neck during a match in March of 2022. He has not returned to the ring since then. And as time continues to pass it seems more and more unlikely that will ever happen.

While Big E’s way of life has not been affected by his neck injury, the type of break has made doctors unwilling to clear him to return to the ring. Not much has changed over the last two years. And in a Monday column for the Players Tribune, the future Hall-of-Famer gave more reason to believe he’s unlikely to ever return to action.

“You know that thing I said earlier, how I’m someone who spent his past not being able to picture a future? I can picture one now. Which is ironic, I guess, since I broke my neck and can’t wrestle,” he wrote. “But I’m at peace. And if that’s truly a wrap on my in-ring career I’m excited to explore the paths that are opening up for me in its wake. Whether it’s working for WWE outside of the ring. Or it’s hosting, or acting, or voice work, or filmmaking, or so many other things.

“I feel like there are still so many parts of myself for me to discover. I feel like I’ve spent the last 10 years with Woods and Kofi on this amazing, life-changing project. Trying to perform a version of wrestling that’s in the image of all the things we love,” Big E added. “And now I want to find out how far I can stretch that project past wrestling. I want to see if I can actually create some of those things we love.”

The WWE great seems excited for life beyond wrestling. After being away from the industry for two years, it seems like he has completed the hardest part of leaving the industry and has been able to find new passions to fill the void. Barring a shocking improvement in his next, Big E looks to be done as an active wrestler.
