There has been a lot of chatter about AJ Styles in recent months. We had not seen Styles in a few months, at least not on WWE television. And with his absence, there was discussion about his contract status and whether he was long for WWE. But then, just like that, we got a banner on SmackDown announcing his return in one week. And return he did, facing Carmelo Hayes. But, the return did not go as he would have liked. Mid-match, he landed awkwardly and grabbed at his foot, and shortly after the referee called for a stop to the match.

But was he really injured

At first, there were some who speculated that Styles was not injured, but that this was an angle. Admittedly possible, it would be sort of odd to have a Superstar out for months and then do an injury angle as soon as he returned. But we’ve seen weirder, I suppose. But we now know what’s going on. AJ Styles himself confirmed that his injury on SmackDown was a legitimate one.

Lisfranc injuries can be very painful, for starters. They can also be serious. As with all injuries, the recovery depends on both the severity of the injury and the person injured (IE, younger people can bounce back faster). With a Lisfranc injury it is no different. In terms of timing, that is still unclear. According to the Mass General Brigham hospital website, a Lisfranc sprain could require eight weeks of rest and recovery. However, should the injury require surgical intervention? The timetable then becomes anywhere from four months to a year. Again, the timing always depends on who is involved. Someone like Styles is fortunate enough to have access to great doctors and rehab facilities. That helps cut down on that return time.
