WWE WrestleMania 35 (4/7/2019) Play By Play Coverage

After months of storylines and build, we have finally reached WrestleMania 35. There are 16 matches confirmed with all of the titles from RAW and SmackDown being decided. There are so many questions heading into the massive event like if Triple H’s career will end, can Kurt Angle get the win in his final match, are Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey sticking around, will Undertaker actually miss the show that helped shape his career, what role will John Cena have and so much more. Hopefully, we get some clarity once everything ends around 12:30 AM EST.

Pre-Show

Cruiserweight Championship: Buddy Murphy vs. Tony Nese

The seven plus hour shows begins with the Cruiserweight. They trade stiff shots with the mix of highflying spots. Tony Nese with a German suplex that sends Buddy Murphy neck first into the turnbuckle. Nese follows with a running knee to win the title.

Winner: Tony Nese to become the new Cruiserweight Champion

Women’s Battle Royal

Naomi and Asuka get her own entrances. Everyone else comes out together. Maria Kanellis is the first eliminated. Candice LeRae and Kairi Sane are the only surprise entrants. Candice is second eliminated. Naomi doesn’t last long either. Dana Brooke was impressive, tossing two members of the Riott Squad. Asuka, Sonya Deville and Sarah Logan are the final three. Logan is left standing, but we forgot about Carmella. And the win goes to Carmella for a nice pop.

Winner: Carmella

Raw Tag Team Championship: The Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) vs. Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins

Curt Hawkins looks to end a 269 losing streak and capture gold. The Revival is isolating Zack Ryder in the ring. Hawkins gets in the match and everyone hits some stiff spots on the outside. Loud “lets go Hawkins” chant. Back in the ring and Hawkins uses a rollup to win the titles and break the undefeated streak.

Winners: Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins to win the RAW Tag Team Championships

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Luke Harper looks like the only surprise entrant. I don’t think the ring could handle any more superstars; it’s that full. The Saturday Night Live guys look terrified as Braun Strowman heads to the ring. Curtis Axel is the first eliminated as the SNL guys head under the ring. Like 10 guys are tossed within 30 seconds. Towards the end, Strowman eliminates both Hardy Boyz. One of the SNL guys grabs a mic and tries to calm Strowman down. They have no chance against Strowman.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Main Card


Our host Alexa Bliss is out and she promises to make WrestleMania moments. She snaps her fingers and Hulk Hogan comes out. He cuts a quick promo and the start posing.


With Hogan’s music still playing, Paul Heyman storms to the ring. He says if Brock Lesnar doesn’t close the show, he fights now and then they’re going to Las Vegas (home of the UFC).

Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins

Before the bell. Lesnar goes right after Rollins and hits the F5 on the outside. The bell eventually sounds and Lesnar starts hitting German suplexes. Rollins sneaks in a low blow and three stomps to win the title.

Winner: Seth Rollins to become the new Universal Champion

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

On paper, this looks like a dream match. They hit their typical spots, but the crowd still seems stunned by the opening moments of the main card show. RKO out of nowhere, but it only gets a 2. Orton tries for an RKO on the to rope, but Styles slips out. On the outside and Styles connects with a phenomenal forearm. He gets a second inside the ring for the win.

Winner: AJ Styles

SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. Ricochet & Aleister Black vs. The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) vs. Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura

Lots of blind tags from everyone. Cesaro does the swing while Sheamus hits clubs across the chest on the apron. Cesaro swings Ricochet for over 30 seconds. Huge tower of doom spot with everyone. Ricochet should have taken the worst bump, but he rolls through the spot. Ricochet has the match won with a 630, but everyone breaks up the pin. Lots of finishers hit. The Usos hit a double splash on Sheamus to retain.

Winner: The Usos to remain SmackDown Tag Team Champions


They introduce the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame class. DX is running around and tossing glow sticks.

Falls Count Anywhere: The Miz vs. Shane McMahon

Shane uses The Miz’s father (George), who is ringside, as a ploy to get advantage. The Miz is across the announce table and George stands in-front of his son, preventing Shane from coming off the top rope. George gets in the ring and Shane with some strikes before The Miz gets back in. The Miz snaps and goes after Shane in the crowd. The Miz destroys Shane through the international announce teams sections and Shane takes a nasty fall off a golf cart. Skull crushing finale for a two count. They climb a scaffold and Miz with suplex as they fall about 15 feet. Shane landed on-top of The Miz to win.

Winner: Shane McMahon


Women’s Tag Team Championship: Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Beth Phoenix & Natalya vs. Nia Jax & Tamina Snuka vs. The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay)

Paige is at the announce table and Bret Hart makes a quick appearance for Natalya & Beth Phoenix. Natalya & Phoenix pay homage using the heart attack. Nia & Tamina start cleaning house. Bayley with the top rope elbow on Beth and Sasha with the top rope frog splash. Beth with a top rope glam slam on Bayley, but Billie makes a blind tag and gets the pin.

Winners: The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) to win the Women’s Tag Team Championships

WWE Championship: Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston

This one might be the most wanted men’s match on the card, as fans have bought into KofiMania for the past couple months. It’s interesting to see WWE recycle the “B+ player” angle that they used for Daniel Bryan…for someone challenging Daniel Bryan. Xavier Woods & Big take out Rowan. Kofi connects with trouble in paradise to win his first WWE Championship after 11 years in WWE.

Winner: Kofi Kingston to become new WWE Champion

Xavier Woods and Kofi Kinston are emotional. Woods and Big E present Kofi with the WWE Championship, which is no longer eco friendly. The crowd is going nuts and Kofi’s kids are in ring celebrating. Woods and Big E open the box they brought from the back. It’s a new New Day shirt to represent the WWE Championship. Now that’s a WrestleMania moment.

United States Championship Match: Rey Mysterio Versus Samoa Joe

In a blink-and-you-missed it match, Joe squashed Mysterio in under 2 minutes. Curious if Rey is still not close to 100 percent. Also, after all the talk of Rey’s son to be at ringside, we saw no Dominic.

Winner, and still United States Champion, Samoa Joe

Drew McIntyre Versus Roman Reigns

Even though we’ve seen Roman work since his return, this is his first official singles match in about six months. WWE really playing up an underdog angle for The Big Dog against the Scottish Psychopath.

Reigns takes a good bit of offense from McIntyre, but in the end. Roman is able to hit his spear and finish the match with a win.

Winner: Roman Reigns

And now, Elias will perform a song. We get some strange taped segments of Elias playing the drums and piano. Now we see Elias in the center of the ring. We see a clip of Babe Ruth calling his home run from almost a 100 years ago. Elias looks complexed. John Cena heads to the ring using his thuganomics. gimmick; complete with the attire.

No Holds Barred Match With Triple H’s Career on the Line: Triple H vs. Batista

Triple is sadistic, using a toolbox to mangle the fingers and rip nosing out of Batista. They are using everything not tied down. Of course, Triple H finds his truth worthy sledgehammer. Ric Flair appears and slides Triple another sledgehammer. Flying sledgehammer shot by Triple H and then a pedigree to keep “The Games” career alive.

Winner: Triple H

Kurt Angle’s Retirement Match: Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin

In spite of fan reaction, WWE is actually going to give us this one on one match as it’s been advertised. Things progressed fairly quickly, with Angle suffering a Deep Six fairly early, but responding with an Angle Slam and the Ankle Lock shortly after. Angle went for a moonsault and missed, setting up Baron Corbin to deliver End of Days, and it’s the end of Angle’s career.

Winner: Baron Corbin

Intercontinental Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. “The Demon” Finn Balor

We have seen Lashley vs. Finn Balor before, but now “The Demon” is in play. Two big spears by Lashley, yet Balor is still in the fight. He summons “The Demon” to power bomb Lashley and regains the gold with Coup de Grâce.


Winner: “The Demon” Finn Balor

Winner Takes All (RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships): Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch

It’s time for the main event 35 years in the making-women in the main event of WrestleMania.

The women were throwing everything at one another, including double moves (a double Natural Selection, a double arm bar), knowing it’s the main event and winner take all.

Just when it seemed to be heating up, Becky turned a Pipers Pit attempt into a pinning situation and got the pin and the win
