It’s an odd night for it, but it’s time for WrestleMania Backlash 2022…and the hits and misses are here!
I call it an odd night because…well…it’s Mother’s Day. Not that we can’t have a major WWE event on a holiday…I just feel like it shouldn’t be on Mother’s Day.
Like, don’t you think new moms like Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey would rather be home enjoying their day?
OK, maybe they are happy kicking tail for WrestleMania Backlash, but I digress.
Beyond the knock about the date, it’s also going up against the NBA Playoffs…so, it’s not exactly an uncontested evening.
We’ve got a few big matches, so there is that.
Cody Rhodes once again takes on Seth Rollins…and that should be stellar.
Ronda Rousey challenges Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
And, most important, we cap the show with a massive six man tag: The Bloodline versus RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre.
So, after all that action, we’ve got the hits and misses here. You know, just in case you missed things, or weren’t quite sure.
On that note…let’s get right to it!
WrestleMania Backlash 2022: Hits And Misses Are Here!
We will go right into the not so fun stuff now…
The Misses!
First one? The underwhelming feel to this.
Heading into this card, it just didn’t feel like a PPV weekend. I might have been the only one with that, but it’s how it went for me.
Toward the last couple shows, things perked up…but I’d argue the damage was done.
Second? The day and date.
Maybe it just irks me, but I really think something that WWE can schedule (which is…well…all of these), you should avoid certain dates.
Third? Omos and Lashley.
In fairness, it was not as bad as it could have been. That said, I kind of hope this is the last one for these two.
Perhaps not, but maybe we see Omos crush Lashley on RAW and then they move on until SummerSlam or something?
But…it is not all bad…so it is time for…
The Hits!
Top of the list? Cody Rhodes versus Seth Rollins.
Many people, myself included, expected this to steal the show.
I think we called it right. Two of the best in the business right there.
Rousey and Flair goes for a second hit.
Much better than I expected it to be.
Edge and AJ Styles gets a nod too. On most any other card, this one might have stolen the show.
Taken down ever so slightly due to the tainted finish, but only a little…because we finally got the long rumored Rhea Ripley move to Judgement Day.
And, I suppose saving the best for last? Our main event.
I didn’t think this one could top Cody and Seth, though the build for this over the last 2 or 3 shows was good.
This match was as good or better than we could have hoped for.
