Everyone knows that I can be a little harsh when it comes to reviews. Unfortunately, the following one may be extremely harsh! Here is our breakdown of the No Mercy pay-per-view.
Elias Vs. Apollo Crews (6/10)
The match between Elias and Apollo Crews would be one of the more exciting ones to watch. The athleticism of Crews and the showmanship of Elias stood out considerably, but both stars are still underappreciated, leaving a lukewarm impression.
Elias would take the win in this match, after a miscalculation by Crews. Elias capitalized with his Drift Away finisher and pinned Crews.
Honestly, I would give the match a 5/10, simply because it was so short and only Elias was the only one working the crowd. I did add one point though because Elias’ song in the beginning of the match made everything better and both athletes showed quite a bit of skill during this match, even though it was painfully short! Still, it failed to captivate me.
The Miz vs. Jason Jordan (7/10)
Even though the presence of the Miztourage made the match somewhat predictable, the Miz and Jason Jordan put up a gem of a match. Both athletes showed incredible stamina and wowed the crowd with some impressive moves!
I would have given this match a high score, but there was one thing wrong in my opinion. At several points during the match, you could clearly see the lack of experience of Jordan when it comes to main roster pay-per-views. That being said, he did impress me and can’t wait to see more.
The Miz would eventually retain his championship after interference run by the Miztourage. However, the rivalry seems far from over and I can’t wait to see more from these two in the future.
Finn Balor Vs. Bray Wyatt (7/10)
When the match started, I did not expect to give this match such a high score. After all, the rivalry did not interest me one little bit. The only reason I watched in the first place was the presence that is Finn Balor!
Even though the match was fantastic, I did take a point from this match for one reason – my lack of interest in the story. Everything Bray Wyatt says you cannot take seriously, he’s been losing so much it’s hard to see him as a threat. Bray did not seem to match the star power and charisma of Balor either.
Despite my dislike for Wyatt, Balor and Wyatt delivered with a lot of action inside and outside the ring! Fin Balor would eventually take the win with a clean Coup de Grace from the top rope.
Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs. Sheamus & Cesaro (10/10)
As you know, I rarely give out a 10/10 for any match, but this one deserves its score! In my opinion, the tag team championship match saved the pay-per-view.
The experience of each wrestler came through perfectly in this match. You had the speed and agility of Rollins, the strength of Cesaro and Sheamus, and the unpredictability of Ambrose. It was a work of art!
After a well-fought battle, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins retained their championships, after Sheamus accidentally hit Cesaro with a Brogue Kick. This was followed by Kings Landing by Rollins and Dirty Deeds by Ambrose.
Fortunately, I think this rivalry is far from over, especially since Cesaro lost teeth during the match! Cesaro needed stitches and dental work after the match too. Poor Cesaro!
Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Emma, and Bayley (7/10)
The women’s match also proved one of the more interesting ones on the pay-per-view, mainly attributed to Nia Jax. If the other women showed some amazing skill as Nia did, I would have ranked this match much higher. Bliss would eventually retain with a pin on Bayley. However, Nia was the only woman in this match who really shined.
Roman Reigns vs. John Cena (4/10)
Probably one of the worst matches I’ve seen in the past year, despite being excited for it after some good promos. The only thing that somewhat saved the match was Cena’s feats of strength.
The match between Roman and John Cena was incredibly slow-paced. It seemed like the only thing that was certain during the match was the constant exchange of punches between the two. There was also a spear through the announcers’ table, but once again Roman Reigns showed no uniqueness in the ring.
Many people believe that this was John Cena’s retirement match, after losing to Reigns and taking his time to leave the ring. He would later make some statements in RAW Talk, which would seem to indicate that he will be away from wrestling for a while.
Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman (5/10)
The only reason this match is getting a five from me is the performance of Braun Strowman, who did put on (or attempted) to put on a brilliant match. Brock Lesnar was more winded than anything because the paper champ cannot put on a lengthy match. Braun showed some amazing feats of strength and has the fitness of a true champion.
Unfortunately, as expected, Brock Lesnar retains and will grace us with his presence whenever he feels like it. Conclusion, the WWE Universal Title has zero value until someone else takes it.
