Looking Back at the First Shield Run!

With recent events indicating a return of the Shield is imminent, it is time to take a look back at the glorious first run of the Shield. So, if you are not familiar with the Shield yet, be sure to check the information below.

The Shield Debut at Survivor Series Pay-Per-View

The Shield had its official debut during the 2012 Survivor Series pay-per-view. The Shield consisted of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins. The team would dominate the tag team division from 2012 to 2014.

Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins began as the mercenaries of CM punk, but their personas would become entangled with wrestling politics.

The Undefeated Streak

The Shield had an undefeated streak running from December 2012 to May 2013. During their undefeated streak, they defeated the likes of Big Show, Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Kane, Randy Orton, Ryback, Sheamus, the Wyatt Family, and the Undertaker.

In 2013, each of the Shield members became a champion. Dean Ambrose became the United Stations Championship by defeating Kofi Kingston. The same night, Rollins and Reigns won the tag team championships by defeating Team Hell No.

Going Against the Authority

Another memorable feud that happened during the Shield’s first run was a feud with the Authority. The team quickly turned into a fan favorite, especially when the team refused to attack commentator Jerry Lawler and turned on the Authority’s Kane instead.

The rivalry between the Shield and the Authority would culminate in a battle of epic proportions at Payback, more specifically with a No Holds Barred elimination match where the Shield prevailed over Evolution.

The Betrayal

One of the best-known stories within the WWE is undoubtedly the break-up of the Shield, which happened when Seth Rollins betrayed Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.

Triple H was set to destroy the Shield. When he could not do so with Evolution due to Batista quitting the company for the second time, he came up with a backup plan and recruited Seth Rollins.

The betrayal certainly came as a shock to a stunned WWE Universe. After the split, each of the members went their own way and were quite successful on their own. However, many believe the time has come for the Shield to reunite, and for them to dominate the WWE once more.

Shield Reunion

At the moment, it seems like Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are looking to reinstate the Shield. The real question many people have is if Roman Reigns is going to be part of that reunion? Considering the heat Roman Reigns is getting as an individual wrestler, the WWE might leave him out to avoid an adverse impact on the popularity of the Shield. Still, is it really the Shield without Roman Reigns?

Did you follow the Shield’s first run? Do you believe the Shield should be reinstated, and if so, should the Shield reunion include Roman Reigns or not? Let us know your unsalted opinions in our comment section below and we look forward to reading them all!
