Kris Statlander holds the TBS Championship and admits being a female wrestler in AEW, or any company, is not the easiest task.
Kris Statlander Admits AEW Women Are In An Uphill Battle
For the longest time, female wrestlers were never portrayed correctly. Either we got two minute matches or they were told to wrestle in the mud with bikinis.
A lot has changed in eight years. WWE dropped the term ‘divas’ and began featuring their female talent properly.
AEW is looking to do the same. While AEW has been able to capture where WWE lacks, like the tag team division, the women still seem to be looking for their foundation.
While speaking on DS of Ring The Belle, Kris Statlander addressed the concerns female wrestlers face.
“I do wish that we could get more time because I do feel if we’re given time, with the right people, we’re gonna put on a show that no one’s ever gonna forget,” said Kris Statlander. “That’s just life, though.”
“We’re just always gonna keep fighting an uphill battle no matter what we do. Not just in wrestling, but in all of life because that’s just what happens when you’re a woman sometimes.”
“I like to think that there are people that have our backs. I know that there are people that have our backs.”
“The more people show that they want to see us, the more that we’re going to get to do.”
As for what to do, Statlander urges everyone to speak up.
Statlander has been with AEW almost since the beginning. She has worked extensively with The Best Friends.
After suffering an ACL tear, she missed about 10 months of action. She retuned at this year’s Double Or Nothing, where she answered Jade Cargill’s open invitation.
With the win, Statlander ended the 60-0 streak of Cargill. She won the rematch and has scored about 15 title defenses since May.
