Dear WWE Creative,
I’m going to get right down to it this week. Becky Lynch is no heel in this post-SummerSlam BFF storyline with Charlotte Flair.
Now that I got that off my chest, allow me to explain.
It’s not that Becky Lynch couldn’t be a heel in this storyline, or any other one for that matter; however, as desperately as she tries to play the bad girl here, she isn’t.
Rewinding a bit, when Becky Lynch was first booked for the SummerSlam SD LIVE women’s championship match against Carmella, most fans were elated. She’s one of those unique talents that is underused and underappreciated. During the Women’s Revolution, a time where female superstars were brought into the forefront of the roster, Lynch’s in-ring abilities, mic skills, and overall talent were often overshadowed by fellow NXT Four Horsewomen, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair. While Becky shone for a bit on SmackDown LIVE, the need to elevate Alexa Bliss and her heel character took priority over continuing Lynch’s momentum and success as a leader in the women’s division. Add Charlotte coming over to SD LIVE in 2017, and since, yes, Lynch has played second-fiddle to the Queen.
That all seemed to change when Lynch finally got her title match, that is, until Charlotte returned to action, and turned the one-on-one SummerSlam match into a triple threat.
Either the Creative team is out of touch with fans, or they are not checking their social media. When Charlotte was added to the SummerSlam match, many with the WWE Universe were upset.
LOVE the Becky Lynch Turn. But.. was it REALLY a turn? Felt more like a MUCH needed edge added to her character. Good luck trying to make Charlotte the babyface in this program #SummerSlam? ?

I love Charlotte I do but she still shouldn’t have been added to the match.
Its Becky time to shine #SummerSlam

So, yes, people weren’t excited for Flair to rack up another championship notch on her WWE resume, and when Lynch turned on Charlotte, the Brooklyn crowd weren’t the only ones who were cheering. Many fans watching at home felt like this was coming for Charlotte, and while technically, Flair did nothing wrong, Lynch refusing to play nice any more sparked something huge within fans. To the point where they not only cheered her in Brooklyn on Sunday, but Atlantic City during a live event on Monday, and then again in Brooklyn for SD LIVE.
just in case anyone wanted to know what becky did/said tonight at #WWEAtlanticCity ? pic.twitter.com/WFKPyaiGD1

Yes, Becky Lynch could be a heel, but in this story; in this program, she’s the face. She’s the face that is no longer going to allow the establishment to walk all over her; she is the face that is going to stand up for her right to shine in the spotlight; she is face that is no longer putting up with the BS of standing in the shadows while friends or foes take her opportunities; she is the face that has some pent up aggression and is ready to explode; she is a face that deserves to finally be in the title race picture for more than just one match; she is a face, that should dethrone the Queen; she is a babyface that will eventually lead the women’s Blue Brand division, for what should be a solid reign as SmackDown LIVE Women’s Champion. She is a face that deserves to be more than a sidekick.
Time to switch this thing around, not only for the fans, but for the character development of both Charlotte and Lynch.
Signed,
Me.
