“Roman Reigns Steroids” rumors have dogged him much of his career including when WWE suspended him in 2016 for violating the WWE Wellness Policy. The cloud of steroid abuse is still hanging over the WWE. The latest allegations come from an alleged steroid dealer called Richard Rodriguez, who has named Roman Reigns and a bunch of other professional athletes and celebrities as his clients. Before we continue with the story, I would like to stress that these are allegations from an alleged steroid dealer. No proof has currently been given to indicate Roman Reigns is indeed involved with the steroid distribution ring.
A $10 Million Steroid Ring
Richard Rodriguez, the man at the center of this story, got a nasty surprise last February when The DEA raided his Wellness Fitness Nutrition LLC (WFN).
The United States Attorney’s Office has stated that the client list of Richard Rodriguez spans at least 50 customers in New York’s Eastern District, of which authorities believe is responsible for a whopping $10 million in illegal profits.
During his prison stint, Richard Rodriguez spoke out about his clients. During an interview with filmmaker Jon Bravo, he named Josh Duhamel, Mark Wahlberg, and even WWE Superstar Roman Reigns. These are some of the statements he made during the interview:
“At the end I’m just trying to clear my name and just make people well aware, there’s a lot more people out there that were involved and are associated with my company that many individuals did not know. “
When referring to Roman Reigns, he stated:
“He is a very down-to-earth person; however, a situation involved in which … oftentimes when you’re brought to trials — which I was not; I decided to take a plea — however, they disclose discovery. Discovery is basically the proof that they have against you. One thing, one part of the discovery is what’s called tried and true statements, which is basically disclosing everybody whom the investigators or people that were investigating you have spoken to with regards to your company, with regards to you, with regards to any other co-defendants that are associated with the indictment. So that’s one of the reasons why I disclosed him.”
Allegations of Chris Benoit on the List
Another rumor circulating the internet – and I am saying rumor because I have not seen the list, nor have I seen any documented proof of these claims – is that Chris Benoit was also on the list of Rodriguez.
Chris Benoit was one of the most successful wrestlers in the WWE until the company erased him from history after killing his wife Nancy and young son Daniel in 2007. Shortly after killing his family, he took his own life. Traces of synthetic anabolic steroids were found in Benoit’s body during the autopsy, causing a storm in the professional wrestling world.
Of course, these are once again allegations and rumors. The situation involving Chris Benoit is tragic enough, and it certainly should not be raked up again.
My Take on This Scandal
I have to be honest guys; these are rumors and nothing more at this point. I have seen no proof, nor court documents, that support the claim of Rodriguez. Therefore, Reigns should be considered as innocent until proven guilty.
Roman Reigns Responds
Reigns released the following statement via ProWrestlingSheet:
Reigns says, “I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition. I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it.”
Adding, “Since then, I’ve passed 11 tests as part of WWE’s independent drug testing program.”
At the moment, it looks like Rodriguez wants to minimize his role in the steroid ring and is throwing some big names to deflect his own wrong-doing. Still, if there is something to the claims, then we are sure to keep you posted.
