‘-With SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch suffering a nasty facial injury during the final segment of Monday’s RAW, the champion is out of Survivor Series. As we learned during SmackDown Live on Tuesday, Ronda Rousey will instead be facing off against former champion Charlotte Flair. That match has all sorts of future implications (possibly).
Given that Lynch will not be medically cleared for Survivor Series, we are hearing that before the decision to use Charlotte in that match wasn’t the only change that was kicked around. According to PW Insider, there were several options being weighed, including the potential of having Becky Lynch drop the women’s championship.
It’s worth noting that this is still a possibility, as the blue brand may take time to evaluate the severity of her injuries. Should the WWE medical staff declare that Becky can’t return to action soon, we could still see them revisit that. For the sake of Survivor Series, while the idea was champion versus champion, the belt was secondary to the show. Given the theme, WWE was unlikely to sacrifice announced matches for the sake of a SmackDown women’s title match. If it happens at all, expect it on a future Tuesday show, or for TLC.
Hopefully, Becky recovers quickly and does not need to relinquish the belt.
-As crazy as Tuesday’s SmackDown was-featuring a major title change as well as several last minute changes to the Survivor Series card, some were quick to point out that the show felt like it had Vince McMahon’s fingerprints all over it.
Following the Tuesday show, we have learned-thanks to PW Insider-that Mr. McMahon was actually not backstage for the blue brand’s go-home show before Sunday’s Survivor Series.
Even with McMahon not physically there, it’s entirely possible (if not likely) that the chairman of WWE had major input into the show. It’s unlikely that changing the lineup of Survivor Series so close to the event was done without guidance from the boss.
