A star from AEW took to social media to blast the company for causing an injury he suffered at their Grand Slam event this weekend. Then quickly took the post down.
On Saturday night, AEW was in the land down under for a massive card in Australia. The company’s first event in the country featured several major matchups. However, native sons and daughters Harley Cameron, Buddy Matthews, and Toni Storm got a lot of attention at the event by way of taking part in championship matches.

Unfortunately, Storm was the only Australian to walk away from the event a champion. Following the show, a video went viral that showed Matthews badly injuring his ankle while entering the ring for his Continental Championship match against Kazuchika Okada.
Most assumed it was a moment of very bad luck for the former WWE star just minutes before his big match started. However, in a surprising moment, Matthews took to social media this weekend and claimed the ring AEW used for the event was the cause of his injury.
Did AEW use a ring with holes in it at their Grand Slam Australia event?
“So thoughts after AEW Grand Slam Australia. If it wasn’t a 16×16 s*** wrestling ring, 1: Wouldn’t have destroyed my ankle on my entrance due to holes in the padding. 2: Okada wouldn’t have been able to put his foot on the rope & I’d be champion. S** happen,” Matthews wrote this weekend [h/t NoDQ].
While it could be seen as a post in character, it clearly was not and he deleted it soon after. The smaller-than-normal size of the ring at AEW Grand Slam Australia was a controversial topic on social this weekend as fans questioned its use. Matthews’ deleted post seems to add to the narrative that it was a bad decision by AEW.
Buddy Matthews’ wife Rhea Ripley was reportedly backstage at the event. In new posts on her social, her husband can be seen using crutches following the event.
