Former WWE Star Baron Corbin Comes to Tony Khan’s Defense In Rey Fenix Drama: Is He Aiming For A Job In AEW?

Baron Corbin had a good run in WWE. And following his last tenure in NXT, he seemed poised for a big push on the main roster. Instead, WWE released Corbin in 2024. However, his recent actions amidst free agency could hint at aiming for a job in a rival promotion.

Late last year, AEW lost one of its most talented stars, Penta, to WWE. The luchador signed with the company and debuted successfully on the second episode of RAW on Netflix. However, Penta’s real-life brother and tag partner is still a part of AEW. He is currently being punished by being iced out until his contract ends by AEW President Tony Khan due to a belief he plans to join his brother.

Fenix has not hidden his unhappiness with his current situation and desire to compete elsewhere. And many fans are supportive of the luchador. However, in a surprise turn of events, Thomas Pestock, FKA Baron Corbin, actually sided with the AEW boss in the ongoing drama with Fenix.

A fan on X stated that Tony Khan needs to release Rey Fenix from his contract. The user believed that keeping him in the company would only hurt him more, which led to Corbin giving his view on the subject via his X.

“If you sign a contract you honor it,” he said. “Would it have been okay if Tony didn’t pay him while he was hurt or out of action? The answer is no bc Tony signed the contract as well. You can’t switch teams after getting what you want and signing the contract.”

Another fan stated that Rey Fenix did honor his contract, which stated he should be working, and Khan did not hold up his end of the bargain. Corbin rightly pointed out in another tweet that signing a contract does not guarantee TV time or matches to the contract.

“False. Having a contract doesn’t mean you are guaranteed TV time or matches it simply means you can’t work for another company”, stated Corbin.

With Penta joining WWE, it is likely Rey Fenix will follow suit. However, it will happen once he returns from his injury and serves the remainder of his contract. Including the time added to the injury. As for Baron Corbin, we will have to wait and see if this support for Tony Khan could actually fetch him a talent contract for the same.
