Maybe UFC 309 will not be the final time we see Jon Jones compete after all.

Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title with a flawless victory over Stipe Miocic. The bout, a year-long in the making, was the main event from Madison Square Garden in New York City Saturday night.

With the win, Jones continued his run as one of the greatest to ever compete in combat sports. He is a two-division champion and holds the most wins in championship fights in the UFC.

But coming off an injury, Jones seemed content to hang it up with a win over Miocic. That angered some, including current interim champion Tom Aspinall.

Well, maybe Aspinall, UFC officials and fans everywhere will get the fight they have been waiting for.

“As far as my future in the Octagon is concerned,” Jones said. “Maybe I will not retire. I have some conversations to have, some negotiating to do. If everything goes right, maybe we’ll give you guys what you want to see.”

The crowd reacted positively to Jones, a native of New York who was competing in his home state for the first time.

Aspinall was also among those in attendance for the bout. UFC president Dana White has stated that he wants to make that fight next, and not Alex Pereira vs. Jones. Pereira is the current light heavyweight champion, a belt “Bones” held before moving up.
