Welcome to the latest UFC results from Ringside Intel. For the first time since 2019, the promotion brought the Octagon to Edmonton for UFC Fight Night 246, also known as UFC Edmonton.
Former two-time UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi earned the headline role. The bout was moved from a previous event for this spot.
A planned heavyweight battle featuring Derrick Lewis and Jhonata Diniz was scrapped on the day of weigh-ins. Lewis, a former challenger to the belt, had non-weight cut related medical issues.
Now, let’s get to the action!
Brandon Moreno, Erin Blanchfield pull out decision wins in Canada
Brandon Moreno, a former two-time UFC flyweight champion, denied Amir Albazi his chance to shine. Moreno scored a decision victory in the main event, sweeping the scorecards, including a pair of 50-45 markings.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old earned his first win since early in 2023 when he stopped Deiveson Figueiredo for the belt, unifying it in the process. He would lost it to Alexandre Pantoja later that year, and also fell to Brandon Royval in February.
For the better part of five rounds, Erin Blanchfield got the best of Rose Namajunas. Blanchfield earned the biggest win of her career to date, topping the former champion via unanimous decision. The bout served as the co-main event.
In early main card action, Mike Malott, Dustin Stoltzfus, Jasmine Jasudavicius and Brendson Ribeiro were victorious. Stoltzfus earned a first round knockout while Jasudavicius picked up a third round submission.
The UFC returns home next weekend for UFC Fight Night 247 from the Apex in Las Vegas. This marks the first event in Nevada since cannabis was officially removed from the state’s list of banned substances. Neil Magny and Carlos Prates is the scheduled main event with Cody Garbrandt and former ONE champion Reinier de Ridder also set for action.
