Welcome to the latest UFC results, as UFC 292 took place Saturday night from Boston. Two titles were on the line inside the TD Garden live on pay-per-view, as Aljamain Sterling defended his bantamweight belt in the main event vs. Sean O’Malley. The co-main featured Zhang Weili putting her strawweight title on the line vs. Amanda Lemos. Now, on to the latest UFC results.
UFC Results: Sean O’Malley Claims Title
Sean O’Malley heard all the talk that he didn’t deserve a shot at the bantamweight championship at UFC 292.
And he didn’t let it bother him.
O’Malley caught Aljamain Sterling in the second round, claiming the title from Boston and the TD Garden.
Following a slow first round, it was “Suga” who acted first, ending the reign of Sterling and beginning his own. O’Malley is now 17-1 in his career as Sterling fell to 23-4 and suffered his first loss since 2017 when he was finished by Marlon Moraes.
It was evident from the start these two were ready to wage war. Both Sterling and O’Malley met while Bruce Buffer made his final introductions of the night.
UFC Results: Successful Defense For Zhang Weili
As she has done throughout her career, Zhang Weili dominated her way to victory, defending her strawweight title in the process. The 34-year-old from China earned her first title defense of her second reign vs. Amanda Lemos.
Previously, Weili won the belt back in 2019 with a victory over Jessica Andrade and defended vs. former champion Joanna Jedrzejcyk. She lost the championship to Rose Namajunas and was unsuccessful in a rematch.
After earning a knockout vs. Jedrzejczyk last year, she claimed the belt with a second round submission vs. Carla Esparza. With the win, Weili is now 24-3 overall.
Lemos moved into title contention with back-to-back finishes of Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson. Against the champion, though, she was unable to get much offense going.
UFC Results: Ian Machado Garry Dominates, Marlon Vera Wins
Ian Machado Garry did what he wanted to against Neil Magny, scoring a one-sided decision in a welterweight showcase. Garry was scheduled to meet Geoff Neal, but he withdrew and was replaced by Magny.
Garry used his incredible offense to continually dominate Magny, moving to 13-0 in his career with the last six wins coming inside the Octagon.
Mario Bautista denied Da’Mon Blackshear two wins in a week, earning a decision. Blackshear stepped on on short notice for Cody Garbrandt after winning last weekend at UFC on ESPN.
Marlon Vera kicked off the main card with a decision vs. Pedro Munhoz, solidifying his place in the bantamweight division pecking order.
UFC Results: Chris Weidman’s Return Comes Up Empty
Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman made a triumphant return to the Octagon but was unable to get his hand raised. Instead, Brad Tavares spoiled the comeback, earning a decision.
Weidman had not fought since suffering a serious leg injury in a loss to Uriah Hall. The bout headlined the ESPN prelim portion of the card.
Gregory Rodrigues knocked out Denis Tiulilulin while Kurt Holobaugh and Brad Katona claimed The Ultimate Fighter titles.
Holobaugh submitted Austin Hubbard and Katona downed Cody Gibson. The season of TUF was coached by Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler.
In early action, Andre Petroski, Natalia Silva and Karine Silva were all winners.
What’s Next
Max Holloway and Chan Sung Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie,” will headline next Saturday from Singapore and the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang.
This marks the sixth trip to the country for the promotion and first since last June.
Along with Holloway-Jung, Anthony Smith faces Ryan Spann, Giga Chikadze battles Alex Caceres and Rinya Nakamura squares off with Fernie Garcia live on ESPN and ESPN+.
