Back in 2019 at UFC 238, Henry Cejudo joined an exclusive list of fighters when he added the bantamweight belt to his waist. Cejudo entered the United Center as the reigning flyweight champion, claiming the vacant title in the main event.
UFC 238: Henry Cejudo Becomes Double Champion
Back on June 8, 2019, Henry Cejudo added even more gold to his already golden resume. The reigning UFC flyweight champion, Cejudo took on Marlon Moraes for the vacant bantamweight belt at UFC 238.
The event took place from Chicago, Illinois and the United Center. The title had become vacant after TJ Dillashaw was stripped of it for failing a drug test.
Cejudo, who had just defended his title vs. Dillashaw, jumped all over Moraes, scoring a finish with just nine seconds left in the third round.
With his win, Cejudo joined Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier and Amanda Nunes as the only UFC fighters to hold titles in two divisions at the same time. He was also just the seventh to ever do it.
Valentina Shevchenko With Highlight-Reel KO
The reigning UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, once again showed off her incredible skills in the co-main event.
Shevchenko successfully defended her title when she landed a head-kick on Jessica Eye just seconds into the second round. The win was her first title defense after winning the vacant belt the year before.
She would go on to defend the title six more times before losing to Alexa Grasso at UFC 285 this past March.
Future UFC Champions With Victories
Speaking of Grasso, she was in action on the prelims, picking up a decision win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Her next fight would see her fall to Carla Esparza, sparking a move to the flyweight division.
Aljaman Sterling, the current UFC bantamweight champion, bested Pedro Munhoz, while former UFC champion Petr Yan downed Jimmie Rivera. Sterling would take the title from Yan and defend it vs. him, as well.
Legends Go Toe-To-Toe
UFC and MMA legends Tony Ferguson and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone met in a featured bout at lightweight. Ferguson would be awarded the win after the doctor stopped the bout following the second round.
Blagoy Ivanov, Tatiana Suarez, Calvin Kattar, Yan Xiaonan, Darren Stewart, Eddie Wineland and Katlyn Chookagian all earned wins.
Ferguson and Cerrone were honored with “Fight of the Night” bonuses, while Cejudo and Shevchenko picked up “Performance of the Night” honors.
