UFC Vegas 77 main event winner Mayra Bueno Silva has announced she failed a pre-fight drug test ahead of her bout with Holly Holm. The two met last month. Silva is scheduled to appear before the Nevada Athletic Commission later this week.
UFC Fighter Mayra Bueno Silva Fails Drug Test
Mayra Bueno Silva, who defeated Holly Holm last month, has confirmed she failed a pre-fight drug test.
Silva scored a second round submission victory over Holm in the main event of UFC Vegas 77 live on ESPN. The event took place from the Apex in Las Vegas.
For Silva, it moved her record to 11-2-1 at the time and marked her biggest win to date. With four consecutive wins on her resume, she was likely to be a contender for the now-vacant title.
Instead, the 31-year-old will await her punishment when she appears before the Nevada Athletic Commission later this week.
“To all of my fans,” Silva wrote on social media. “It is with deep regret that I have to announce I failed a drug test that I took the week of my fight against Holly Holm.
“I want to begin by saying I have never in my life taken a substance to enhance my ability in or outside the cage. I have tested positive for a substance that is consistent with the prescription medication I take for my ADHD.
“I have been dealing with this disorder my entire life and it affect me in a multitude of ways.”
Silva continued, saying she has “provided a plethora of documents and explanations to USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission” in regards to her disorder.
“I am fully cooperating with USADA, the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the UFC to make sure that all information is available and I fully acknowledge the presence of the substance in my system,” she said. “I discontinued this medication at the beginning of fight week, like I always have in the past.”
After going 7-1 to begin her career, Silva fought Montana De La Rosa to a draw and lost to Manon Fiorot in 2021. Since, she has reeled off wins over Wu Yanan, Stephanie Egger, Lina Lansberg and Holm, with the last three coming by submission.
Three of those four fights resulted in a bonus being awarded.
