Marlon Vera knows the importance of his bout Saturday night at UFC 292.

Vera opens the pay-per-view main card from Boston’s TD Garden against Pedro Munhoz. The event features the bantamweight title on the line between reigning champion Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley.

“I feel good,” said Vera, during recent fight week video from Roobet. “I feel ready and it’s really a great opportunity to shine, to vindicate myself, to return to the victory column. And what better opportunity than Munhoz, someone who has been with all the best, with the top five many times.

“He came close to fight for the title. And now it’s my time. I’m going to come in on Saturday, do my job and rip the head off.”

Vera owns a victory over O’Malley and has went up against former UFC champions before. He understands what it takes and just how key this bout is in determining the future of the division.

“Pretty good man,” he said. “Hard work pays off. Couple days away from the fight. Feeling sharp, feeling ready. Ready to (expletive) shit up.”

The 30-year-old from Ecuador is coming off a tough split decision defeat at the hands of former interim title challenger Cory Sandhagen.

Prior to that, though, he knocked out ex-UFC champion Dominick Cruz in the main event on ESPN, scored a decision over Rob Font and finished another former titleholder in Frankie Edgar.

Each of his last four victories have all resulted in fight-night bonuses for Vera, who is 20-8-1 overall with eight knockouts and eight more wins by submission.

Overall, he has been involved in five “Performance of the Night” bouts and three more “Fight of Night” efforts. Vera currently holds the division record for finishes at 10.
