Former UFC contender Tony Ferguson finds himself in some hot water with law enforcement.
Ferguson was arrested over the weekend for DUI after allegedly crashing into two cars and flipping the truck he was driving while out and about in Hollywood, California.
According to TMZ, Ferguson hit two parked cards outside of a nightclub in Hollywood, with his own truck landing on its side after the accident. The report states the former interim champion was very uncooperative and refused a field sobriety test.
MMA Fighting later confirmed that Ferguson was arrested for DUI, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman said. Online documents indicate he was arrested around 2 a.m. California time and booked four hours later.
Ferguson is being charged with a misdemeanor and had his bail set at $30,000.
Ferguson last fought at UFC 279 vs. Nate Diaz
It has been a few months since we last saw Ferguson in action. He faced off with Nate Diaz at UFC 279 last September, losing via submission.
The 39-year-old is riding a five-fight losing streak, a skid that includes losses to the likes of Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler.
Ferguson’s last win came in 2019 when he stopped Donald Cerrone via doctor stoppage at UFC 238.
That victory was the last of a 12-fight win streak that propelled Ferguson to a spot among the top lightweight fighters in the world.
What comes next for Ferguson?
Following a release from jail on Sunday afternoon, Ferguson is set to return to Los Angeles municipal court on June 1. He really has no previous run-ins with the law, so it is possible that he escapes without serious trouble.
However, with it being a DUI and the fact that he struck vehicles – while unoccupied, thankfully – and considering his name-value, Ferguson could be in trouble. He also could receive some backlash from the UFC with all of this added on to his recent losing streak.
