Who will Nate Diaz next fight be against?

After coming up short in his boxing debut versus Jake Paul in 2023, it was unclear if Diaz would continue his fight career in the sweet science or return to his MMA roots. Well, in March we got the answer when the rumors of a Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal rematch were made a reality. But this time the UFC greats will face off in boxing instead of cage fighting.

However, in May the bout was pushed back a month because the card would be competing against UFC 302 and another major boxing card on the same date. Now, the fight will go down on July 6 and in Anaheim instead of Inglewood.

When Jorge Masvidal ended his short retirement late last year it wasn’t long before the rumblings began about a potential rematch with Diaz in boxing. “Gamebred” has suggested his desire to jump into the world of boxing and a booking between them makes sense on a sporting and financial level.

The history: Masvidal’s last win inside the fabled Octagon came against Diaz when the two faced off in the UFC 244 main event inside Madison Square Garden. The event was historic because it was the fight that debuted the popular BMF title and was the first UFC event a sitting president ever attended when Donald Trump appeared in the crowd for the main card.

Masvidal won dominantly by technical knockout before the start of the fourth round due to a bad cut over Diaz’s eye.

The boxing differences: Masvidal was able to use kicks in their first fight, however, that won’t be an option this time. Likewise for Diaz and attempting a takedown. Both are known for their striking and this should be a wild and entertaining war as the MMA greats play boxer for a night.

The bottom line: With Jake Paul busy fighting Mike Tyson, this was the sensible option for both men to land a solid payday and it should be a fun matchup for long-time fans of the UFC veterans.

The Stockton Bad Boy: Diaz became a star in MMA by following the path that his talented and popular brother Nick established before him. That of being a trash-talking boxer, with unlimited cardio, and durability few others in a cage fight can match.

The Mumbling Influencer: Diaz ascended to an elite level of popularity when he stunned the world as a short-notice replacement and handed Octagon superstar Conor McGregor his first UFC loss in 2016. Since then, he has become one of the biggest names in the industry.
