The Road to WrestleMania 40 has officially begun with the WWE Royal Rumble 2024 over and let us see what grade each match scored.
WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Report Card: Grades Are In
Women’s Royal Rumble Match
The card opened with the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, which felt like it lasted two hours. There were some good moments, but some sloppy wrestling too.
First time seeing TNA champion, Jordynne Grace, and she should make the jump to WWE. Chelsea Green was fun to watch after only lasting five seconds last year.
I really liked the final six, as the pace increased after Jade Cargill arrived, and thought Bayley winning was the right call. Please, remove Maxxine Dupri from competing inside the ring as that was embarrassing. Grade: B
Men’s Royal Rumble Match
The first two entrants were twin bothers, The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso). Perfect two entrants to start as they begin to build their likely WrestleMania program.
Compared to the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, the match’s pace was much better. Cody Rhodes, Gunther and CM Punk always felt like the favorites.
Bron Breakker was impressive and he should have been on the main roster nine months ago. The final three were great choices as all three deserved to win. Grade: B
United States Championship: Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens
The match was great, but we are closing on three hours and the crowd was rather quiet. They only popped for the big spots, where Logan Paul was taking damage.
Logan has not been doing this for long and yet, he continues to impress. The moment Austin Theory and Grayson Waller came to ringside was not needed.
Yes, the referee all of a sudden had 20/20 vision once the brass knuckle’s were on Kevin Owen’s hand. The post match beating was a nice addition to conclude the affair. Grade: B+
Fatal Four-Way Match For The Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton vs AJ Styles vs LA Knight
We are 70 days from WrestleMania 40, hence Roman Reigns was never dropping the belt. For 1,245 days he has been champion and that is not changing right now.
It seems like Reigns was running out of opponents, but is yet to pin or submit AJ Styles or Randy Orton in singles action. LA Knight was pinned at Crown Jewel, so he is out of the picture.
Overall, a good match despite the crowd not reacting much. If Reigns can keep the gold at WrestleMania 41, he probably keeps it until next year. Grade: B+
