Ariel Helwani recently conducted an interview with a WWE Champion during The MMA Hour. The talent talks about possibly wrapping up his in-ring career over the next couple of years.
WWE Champion Talks Retirement
The WWE U.S. Champion, Rey Mysterio sat down to chat with Helwani and spoke about a number of topics, including when he plans to retire. According to Rey, he hopes to retire his wrestling boots in the next year-and-a-half to two years.
Among other things he spoke about was his son Dominik Mysterio and his career. Rey notes that as he’s on SmackDown, so he watches Monday Night RAW at home with his wife.
Despite the storylines that pit father and son as rivals, Mysterio states that the two watch their son and the connection he has with the audience. Rey says that it’s “mind-blowing” to see Dominik’s growth, week after week since he turned from face to heel.
Rey goes on to reveal he’s “in awe” of his son. He also states that he didn’t think Dominik’s growth would happen so fast.
Mysterio was also asked about a possible mask versus hair match against his son, and he’s all for it. Rey notes that the WWE hasn’t done a mask versus hair match and sets the imagery for Dominik being bald.

The two talked about Triple H’s leadership and being called out by Logan Paul. However, a more interesting question was also who would land on Rey’s wrestling Mount Rushmore.
Rey states that Eddie Guerrero tops the list, thanks to opening the door for Lucha Libre performers. He also places Hulk Hogan and the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair on his Rushmore.
Lastly, he states that while he loves the Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Kurt Angle would be there, too. Who has Rey Mysterio on their wrestling Mount Rushmore?
