Combate Global Returns Sunday With ‘El Showdown’ Event

Combate Global

A special ‘El Showdown’ between Mexico and the United States is the tagline for Sunday’s Combate Global event. The card airs live on Paramount+ with Roberto Romero taking on Justin Vazquez in the main event.

‘El Showdown’ Set For Combate Global Sunday

Roberto Romero and Justin Vazquez headline the five-fight ‘El Showdown’ Combate Global event set for Sunday. The card airs live on Paramount+, with a pre-show beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET and the main card to follow at 9 p.m. ET.

Jimmy Smith and Rodolfo Roman will call the action and co-host the pre-show.

Romero, a 6-2-1 native of Mexico, and Vazquez, who is 10-2 and fighting out of Miami, were scheduled to meet back in March. The bout will take place in the featherweight division.

“The rivalry between neighbors Mexico and the U.S. continues to produce some of the best action in La Jaula, and this fight card has some of the best new talent from both sides of the border,” said Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren.

Unbeaten in his last six fights, Romero has scored three first round knockouts during that run. The 23-year-old had a ‘Fight of the Year’ battle with Zed Montanez back in 2021 that ended in a draw.

Vazquez has finished 60 percent of his wins, including a March flying knee knockout under the Combate Global banner. He will be going after his sixth consecutive win vs. Romero.

In the bantamweight division, Ismael Zamora meets Adam Ortiz, as Zamora looks to hand Ortiz his first pro loss in six fights.

Dulce Vazquez fights Naomie Young, Miguel Gonzalez meets Rick Zelada and Elizabeth Avila faces Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc in other action.
