Combate Global: Mexico Faces Dominican Republic On July 8

Combate Global

Combate Global will present a special Mexico vs. Dominican Republic fight card on Saturday, July 8. The event takes place live on Paramount+ and Univision with Carlos Briseno vs. Micaias Urena in the main event.

Combate Global Set For Saturday Live

The next installment of Combate Global is set for Saturday, July 8 with Mexico vs. Dominican Republic as the featured attraction.

In the main event, Mexico City Bonebreakers star Carlos Briseno will face two-time Dominican Republic national champion Micaias Urena. The bout headlines the Paramount+ and Univision card from Miami.

“This fight between two stars from Mexico and The Dominican Republic accentuates COMBATE GLOBAL’s format of country versus country, and will really demonstrate what it means to represent your country in La Jaula,” said Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren.

Founded by Raul Salas Navarro, Bonebreakers are one of the top fighting teams in Mexico. David Martinez, the reigning bantamweight champion, trains there.

Briseno is coming off a 2022 win over Andrew Whitney and has won four of his last five fights overall. He was also part of the 2021 Copa Combate one-night, eight-man tournament.

Urena sports a record of 8-3 and is the No. 1 bantamweight from the Caribbean. He has earned a finish in all eight of his wins, including three straight. In his last fight, he knocked out Andres Cordero in the first round with a head-kick.

Jade Jorand-Katie Perez In The Co-Main Event

Female fighters Jade Jorand and Katie Perez will square off in the co-main event. The bout will take place at a catchweight of 110 pounds.

The 22-year-old Jorand is a kickboxing specialist who has gone 3-2 since transitioning the mixed martial arts. That record includes wins in her last three fights in the promotion, highlighted by a one-sided decision over Cabello Rivera last time out.

Perez, 4-4, is a grappler who has scored three submission wins in her career. In May, though, she earned her first knockout, besting Stephanie Irurzo in the third round.

Andrea Meneses-Maria Paz Silva, Other Fights Set

In the third main card bout and second featured women’s matchup, 26-year-old Andrea Meneses (4-1) will look to rebound from her only defeat to date when she goes up against Maria Paz Silva (0-0) at atomweight (105 pounds).

Paz Silva is making her MMA debut after winning 12 of her 16 kickboxing bouts.

Diego Freitas makes his Combate Global debut against Luis Murdoch and Andreia Filipa faces Violeta Mendoza in preliminary card action.
