Combate Global’s Sunday Event Headlined By Title Fight
In the featured bout this Sunday at Combate Global will be a battle for the bantamweight championship, as David Martinez defends against Jose Zarauz.
The event takes place from Miami and also features a number of key bouts in the promotion.
Also announced is a women’s flyweight contest between Maritza Sanchez and Fernanda Marrufo.
David Martinez, who is 9-1, enters as the reigning Combate Global bantamweight champion. His opponent, Zarauz, owns a record of 23-9-1 and was a competitor in Copa Combate.
Martinez, a native of Mexico, has won five consecutive fights. Included in that run is three straight finishes, as he topped Axel Osuna last October.
Zarauz is coming off a second round submission of Jordan Espinosa that marked one of his biggest wins to date. He has been hit hard with fight issues, as seven fights have been cancelled since 2019.
Sanchez, 4-1, has not lost since her MMA debut, including a recent knockout of Dee Begley. Marrufo owns a 2-1 mark and is coming off a finish of her own when she stopped Adelaida Guzman.
Marrufo previously competed in Muay Thai, where she was a perfect 7-0 between 2011 and 2014.
In the second featured main card bout, Tony Cortez makes his debut against Jose Ferreri. Cortez, 21 years old, is a six-time amateur champion for SparStarMMA and was a four-time California State amateur champion.
Prior to signing for his pro debut, Cortez won all eight of his fights, including six by knockout with one coming in just six seconds.
In other action, Javier Reyes battles Jordan Beltran and Caroline Gallardo takes on Sara Cova.
