Combate Global May 28 Card To Feature Title Fight

Reigning Combate Global bantamweight champion David Martinez steps back inside the cage on May 28 to defend his title.

Martinez will face former Copa Combate tournament competitor Jose Zarauz live on Paramount+. The event takes place from Miami.

“David Martinez has shown why he is a world champion at only 24 years old,” said Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren. “The fight with a seasoned fighter like Jose Zarauz, however, will be a new kind of challenge for the champ, though.”

This will be the second title defense for Martinez, as the native of Mexico City, Mexico downed Axel Osuna last October. The kickboxer has scored wins in nine of his 10 pro fights, with eight of those being finishes.

Martinez won the title in 2021 with three wins in a one-night, eight-man tournament.

Jose Zarausz Looking To End The Run

For Zarausz, this is a chance to become a champion and stand atop the division.

A purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Zarausz owns a career record of 23-9-1. He is coming off a second round submission victory over Jordan Espinosa from May of last year.

Two years ago, he took part in the Copa Combate one-night $100,000 tournament. Recently, Zarausz went to Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts for his camp, working with Julio Arce.

More bouts for the event will be announced soon.

The Paramount+ live stream on May 28 will begin with a 30-minute Combate Global pre-show at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT, and will continue with the live fight action.
