After lots of confusion, Triple H explains why the tag team bout closed WrestleMania 39. Also, Charlotte Flair could be taking a WWE break.

Why Tag Team Bout Closed WrestleMania

There are always countless questions heading into WrestleMania and that is part of the fun. Unlike in previous years, many were wondering what would be the main event of night one.

The two likely candidates were The Usos against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn or Charlotte Flair against Rhea Ripley. In the end, the tag team match got the nod.

During the WrestleMania 39 post-show press conference, Triple H went over the decision. He made a point how the slot is not designed for just women and it depends on the storyline.

“You know, it’s all about what is the most impactful and as storylines played out heading into WrestleMania, to me, it was the most emotional and storyline driven match on the card,” said Triple H. “I felt like that needed to be, I think we all felt like that needed to be in that spot.”

“I’ve said this before when people say, ‘oh you put the women in the main event.’ We didn’t put the women in the main event, that’s the spot.”

“That is the storyline that was putting it in that role. It’s not about giving it to them because they’re women.”

“Never once did it factor for me. You know, tag team championships have never been in that spot.”

“It made history. I didn’t know this.”

“Whatever story has the most impact and is the most driven, that’s what needs to be in the spot. And in this case, it was The Usos and Kevin and Sami.”

Did WWE Make The Right Call?

Both matches were exceptional. Personally, the women’s match seemed better inside the ring, but either could have closed the show.

WrestleMania 39 saw Owens and Zayn end The Usos record-breaking title reign. Together, they walked out as the new RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

As for the women, Ripley defeated Flair to capture the SmackDown’s Women Championship. It marks Ripley’s first title run on the main roster.

Of course, WWE aired a Hollywood themed promo with Ripley last month, with a ‘Stranger Things’ theme. In the promo, it suggested how Ripley would be in the main event of WrestleMania 39.

Speaking of Charlotte Flair, her next step in WWE is unclear. She returned to action after a long hiatus and instantly won the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

During the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Flair’s appearance at WrestleMania 39. She seemed slimmer and mentioned how she plans to enter a bodybuilding competition over the summer.

Charlotte’s match with Rhea Ripley was hard-hitting. Some speculated Ripley was knocked out at one point and the new champion was uncertain if that did occur.

The match left women with battle wounds.

A big complaint from fans is Flair being featured too often on TV. Also, that she usually wins gold.

Therefore, the proposed time away would allow others to challenge the new champion.

As for Ripley, she is now seemingly part of the blue brand. So, with The Judgement Day on RAW, the stable might see some changes.
