Now, WrestleNewz crunched the numbers and came up with the best wrestling match of 2020! So, which promotion has won this amazing honor?
How We Picked Our Number One?
When I look for the best match of the year, I look at the total entertainment picture. It does not have to be flawless, but it has to be entertaining.
In addition to entertainment, I was also looking for something new and exciting. Something we had not seen before.
And finally, I also looked at storylines. If the match in question had a decent story underneath, it would get one step closer to the best wrestling match of 2020.
Evidently, there were plenty of matches to choose from. Every single one of the big promotions had at least one match that stood out for me.
Of course, there is always one that stands out more than others. And while this year was quite difficult, we eventually settled on one promotion and one match.
Winner: The Inner Circle Versus The Elite
One match this year will stay with me forever. And for that reason, it became the best wrestling match in 2020.
But before I go into too much detail, let us take a quick look back at this controversial match with some highlights!

One of the main reasons I chose Stadium Stampede above others is entertainment. From the beginning to the end, there was not a single moment in this special match I was not entertained.
Of course, since the match was pretaped, there was a lot more that could be done that could not be done in a normal match. However, since the year was ruled by the coronavirus, this match very much deserves to be on top.
The Stadium Stampede embodied a lot of the things AEW stood for. It stands for originality, creativity, and above all excitement.
Adam Page And Kenny Omega Versus The Young Bucks (AEW Revolution)
AEW has many matches that were contenders for the best wrestling match of 2020. In fact, our first runner-up for the best wrestling match of 2020 is a match that took place at AEW Revolution.
At AEW Revolution, Kenny Omega and Adam Page faced The Young Bucks. In fact, Page and Omega managed to successfully defend their tag team titles against the gigantuan tag team of brothers Nick and Matt.
This match told an amazing story. Actually, different storylines were going on at the same time during this particular match.
Everyone wondered if Omega and Page could overcome their differences to be victorious. Then, there was tension between the Bucks and Omega and Page.
In short, this amazing match had to be in our honorable mentions for the best wrestling match of 2020. It also means that Omega and Page made it on our list twice so far.
Kazuchika Okada Versus Kota Ibushi (NJPW Wrestle Kingdom)
If you were watching this match, you probably had to remind yourself to breathe from time to time. It was one of the most intriguing matches of the year without a doubt!
Okada and Ibushi had their epic fight on the first day of Wrestle Kingdom 14. But even though this match took place in January, it was still one of the matches I remember most in these honorable mentions for the best match of 2020.
Ibushi and Okada came prepared for the match with brand new themes. And once the match started, both men built it to perfection.
The start was a little slow with some slow exchanges in the beginning. However, as the match progressed, we saw amazing moves such as the Golden Triangle moonsault and the Boma Ye.
Evidently, the trouble with this match is that it was a classic for indie fans. If you were not an indie fan and don’t know the men involved, you probably would not have enjoyed it as much as we did.
AEW Parking Lot Brawl
If you are a fan of the good old-fashioned hardcore wrestling, you favorite match might have been AEW’s parking lot brawl. Being one of the most brutal matches of the year, it is deserving as one of the honorable mentions for best wrestling match of 2020.
The match itself did not take place during a pay-per-view. Instead, it got booked for an episode of AEW Dynamite.
Trent and Chuck Taylor of Best Friends took on Santana and Ortiz of the Inner Circle. The match itself was a continues punishment for all the wrestlers involved.
From vehicle body slams to being put through mirrors and being hit by weapons, this match had absolutely everything. Of course, the big surprise came at the end when it was revealed Orange Cassidy was hiding in a car boot and came to Best Friends’ aid.
The match got picked up by some legendary WWE wrestlers as well. In fact, Mick Foley took to social media to sing the praises of the men involved.

Brodie Lee Versus Cody Rhodes (Dog Collar Match)
Another match that is an honorable mention for the best wrestling match of 2020 is the dog collar match between Brodie Lee and Cody Rhodes.
Much like the parking lot brawl, the title match between Brodie and Cody was one of the more violent ones on AEW Dynamite. However, this is what this particular match stand out more than anything.
The entire concept was quite great, especially with the involvement of Brodie’s faction. Both men told an exquisite story, even though the feud was put together rather quickly.
The dog collar match also gave Brodie Lee his title. Getting the TNT Championship was undoubtedly the recognition he deserved in the WWE for years.
While it took AEW to make Brodie Lee the champion he deserved to be, the year did not end well for this amazing pro wrestler. Unfortunately, Brodie Lee disappeared from our television screens after this match.
As you may know already, Brodie Lee died unexpectedly this year. This match will go down in history and ensure fans remember him.
Brodie was an amazing wrestler and this match proves how good he really was.
