UFC Fighters That Could Be Brilliant In WWE Wrestling

Conor McGregor

Many wrestlers in World Wrestling Entertainment have a background in mixed martial arts. Wrestlers like Ronda Rousey have proven that the transition can be very successful indeed. But which current UFC fighters could do well in WWE wrestling?

The Best-Known International Name For WWE Wrestling?

When you think about international appeal and overall fame where mixed martial arts is concerned, the name Conor McGregor springs to mind immediately. He is currently listed as a Welterweight, but started as a Featherweight in 2008.

McGregor has quite the interesting history, with 22 wins out of 26 in MMA. He is known within the WWE wrestling universe already, as he and Becky Lynch exchanged Twitter messages. Stephanie McMahon even tried to entice him into joining on social media.

Considering how famous McGregor is, you would think he would be an awesome addition to the roster. However, the UFC fighter does have some image issues. In 2017, he was convicted of a driving offence. And, he’s had a couple of scuffles with the law mainly due to fighting outside of the octagon. In 2019, he pled guilty to assault and was fined a whopping €1000. Question is, can the WWE risk it?

Lethal Female Addition

Cris Cyborg

There is no shortage of lethal female fighters in the WWE, but I’m sure they would make an exception for Cris Cyborg. This woman could make a flawless transition from the UFC to the WWE, and here is why.

Cyborg is a mixed martial artist with a plethora of fighting style backgrounds. She is proficient at Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and yes you’ve guessed it, wrestling. She also holds an impressive MMA record of 22 wins out of 25 fights.

Fortunately, Cyborg does not have the colorful background of Conor McGregor. But that does not mean she is completely clean where misdemeanors are concerned. At the beginning of her career in 2011, she tested positive for an anabolic steroid called Stanozolol and was suspended for a year. However, she turned things around and eventually signed with UFC in 2015.

At the moment, Cyborg has signed a multi-year deal with Bellator MMA. In other words, it is unlikely that we will see Cris Cyborg in the WWE any time soon. Still, she would be a really interesting addition to have.

The Most Likely UFC Fighter To Join WWE Wrestling

Daniel Cormier

Some UFC fighters have already been talking about a potential contract with the WWE. One of the fighters in question to join WWE is Daniel Cormier.

When Daniel Cormier joins World Wrestling Entertainment, he will not struggle with the transition as much as other people would. Interestingly, he is a former Olympic wrestler, which has Kurt Angle written all over!

Contrary to some of the other suggestions in this overview, Cormier has a clean background. Other than ripping into Brock Lesnar from time to time, which we all do, there’s no dirt on this man. So, he would fit the image of the WWE very well indeed.

Former UFC Fighters Who’ve Succeeded In WWE Wrestling

Before we start, I must mention that there are loads of former UFC fighters in the WWE. So, I will focus on the most prominent ones and their backgrounds.

Brock Lesnar

WWE Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is the first man that comes to mind when thinking about an MMA background. The man has a sports background that cannot be written on one page, even in the smallest font possible. So, let’s focus on the main things.

Lesnar’s MMA record includes 9 matches with 5 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no contest. The latter was actually a win, but this was overturned when he tested positive for clomiphene.

Lesnar has gone on from MMA to a very successful wrestling career. He has won the WWE Championship five times, the WWE Universal Championship three times, and won everything from King of the Ring to Money in the Bank.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey

Most of you are familiar with Ronda Rousey and her background. She surprised everyone when she turned to the WWE. But, she showed an aptitude for sports entertainment immediately.

As you may know already, Rousey has a major background in MMA and was a big name in Judo before she made her way to the Octagon. She even competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics and achieved a bronze medal.

In the UFC, Ronda won 12 out of 14 matches. When she made her debut in 2011, she enjoyed continuous wins until 2015. She would eventually suffer two consecutive losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. If not for those, we might not have seen her the WWE.

Shayna Baszler

Shayna Baszler

Shayna Baszler is a legitimate badass. She has an extensive UFC background that is noticeable in her wrestling style. Baszler started her MMA career in 2006 and eventually ended up in the UFC in 2013. She left MMA in 2015 and started a career in professional wrestling. Even though she had to pay her dues in the indies before she made it to NXT, we are so glad she did.

Much like the other people on our list today, Shayna has an impressive MMA record. She fought a total of 26 matches and won 11 of them.

Other Former UFC Fighters In The WWE

Sonya Deville

As we already mentioned, there are countless other WWE wrestlers who have a background in mixed martial arts. While we cannot mention them all in great detail, wrestlers who have been in MMA before include but are not limited to Sonya Deville, Bobby Lashley, Batista, Gentleman Jack Gallagher, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir.

From the list we have given you today, it seems that former mixed martial artists can make terrific wrestlers. Of course, this does not apply to everyone because the wrestling world is quite different fromMMA. That being said, it would be fun to see others in the future.
