MSG Live: Women Make History, Vince McMahon & John Cena Appear

MSG Live: Women Make History

WWE has a rich history with Madison Square Garden, and the company’s legacy with the arena continued last night, with a WWE live event that is traditionally one of the biggest house shows of the year for the company, as it relates to non-televised events. According to PWInsider, the boxing day extravaganza not only showcased RAW talent, as well as some NXT superstars, but special appearances were made by Vince McMahon (not the sort of thing you always seen within a live event), a return by John Cena, and the women’s division once again made history.

First and foremost, the Women’s Revolution rolled on last night, when RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defeated Nia Jax, in a main event match that closed the MSG show; something which has never been done at this venue before.

Just prior to the women’s history-making match, John Cena would return, thanks to the help of Vince McMahon.  Braun Strowman was slated to meet Baron Corbin in a bout; however, Corbin would state that since Braun wasn’t there (due to injury), the referee needed to count Strowman out. The official began doing so, and at the eight-count mark, Vince’s music erupted; and so did the crowd.

VKM wished the crowd a belated Merry Christmas, and helped the ref count Strowman out to 10, making Corbin the winner. Fans began to boo, and Vince went on to state that on this night at MSG, he wanted to give Corbin someone else to fight, someone with some big memories at the venue … and that someone was John Cena. It was noted that the crowd went wild, especially the kids in attendance, and Cena gave Vince a hug when entering the ring. He would move on to defeat Corbin in the match.

Results of the MSG Live Event, below:

*Finn Balor would defeat Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre in a triple threat match. Balor would pin Ziggler, after laying his signature Coup de Grace maneuver.

*Apollo Crews would win a Battle Royal match, eliminating Jinder Mahal during the final moments. Other superstars in the bout included: Rhyno, Heath Slater, Curt Hawkins (the first to be eliminated), Zack Ryder, No Way Jose, Titus O’Neil, and The Ascension.

*Elias grabbed a win over Bobby Lashley (with Lio Rush) during another Guitar on a Pole bout. Of course, Elias played a song for the crowd prior to the match.

*Natalya teamed up with Ember Moon to defeat Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan (with Sarah Logan ringside). Morgan tapped out to Nattie’s Sharpshooter submission.

* NXT North American Champion Ricochet teamed up with Matt Riddle, Velveteen Dream, as well as UK Champion Pete Dunne to defeat WWE NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and the Undisputed Era Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong (with Bobby Fish). This was the first time all these superstars performed at MSG.

*WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose defeated Seth Rollins to retain his IC title in a Steel Cage match. Rollins came close to escaping the cage, thus winning the bout; however, Corbin (donning a New York Knicks hoodie and incognito) ran to ringside and closed the door before Rollins could win and retain. Dean ended up escaping the cage to win the bout.

*RAW Tag Team Champions Chad Gable and Bobby Roode won a triple threat tag match against the Revival and the AOP (with Drake Maverick).

*Bayley and Sasha Banks defeated Alicia Fox and Mickie James (with Dana Brooke).

*John Cena pinned Baron Corbin after laying an AA and then new Lightning Elbow move.

*RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defeat Nia Jax (with Tamina) via her armbar submission. Post-match saw the Riott Squad attacking Ronda, where Nattie and Ember tried to make the save, but were attacked by Mickie, Dana, and Alicia. Still, Bayley and Sasha then entered the equation, where fans saw a huge women’s brawl break out.
