The divorce of David Otunga and Jennifer Hudson has been on everyone’s lips these days. The pair left things far from amicable, with lawyer statements flying back and forth.
Things seem to be heating up once again this week, more specifically with a statement released by Otunga’s lawyer. Here’s the story.
The Statement
“Today, Jennifer requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiance. Jennifer’s actions are solely taken in the best interest of their son [8-year-old David Daniel Otunga Jr.]. David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now. However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent granted residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child’s primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effort to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute. As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”
Other Allegations Flying Around
Allegations are flying from both parties. David Otunga defended himself in court after Jennifer Hudson claimed he was unemployed and did not pay child support. She also filed a protective order, claiming she was being harassed by WWE wrestler and commentator.
TMZÂ claims that Otunga called the allegations of Hudson ironic. He states that Hudson forced him to choose between his wrestling career and his family five years ago, after which he became legal adviser as well as a commentator.
Despite all these allegations, there is one allegation made by Hudson that can be disproved at this point, more specifically the claim that Otunga is unemployed. At this point, David Otunga is still an employee of the WWE, working as a panelist and commentator. He has also been involved in numerous acting projects aside from his WWE work, so this statement is known to be untrue. However, if Otunga is paying his Hudson any child support remains to be seen and must be handled in court.
The situation between Otunga and Hudson is volatile, to say the least, which makes me quite sad for their son, who will undoubtedly become affected by these allegations and the long court battles. I hope the pair can work things out in a reasonable manner and protect that which matters most, their child.
