WWE’s New Strategy to Drop Veterans As Part of Internal Restructuring

WWE once again shocked the fans by releasing two superstars of veteran status. Recent updates hint that it has been a planned strategy by the internal regime.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer first addressed R-Truth’s surprise release. He announced on social media that WWE would not be renewing his contract. Meltzer stated Truth’s exit was probably due to him being used only in cameos and not utilized as a weekly talent in storylines.

He said, “R-Truth, not so much. I mean, he’s been around for a long time and I think a lot of people were surprised. But when you really look at it, you know, between the age and the fact that he’s not… I mean, he’s just in there for quick cameos. It’s not like he’s in weekly storylines or anything like that.”

The wrestling journalist then spoke about Carlito‘s release, which he also announced via a social media tweet. Meltzer stated that he was surprised by WWE’s decision to let him go. This was due to his regular and ongoing program on RAW with The Judgment Day.

“When you’re bringing people in… when you make additions to a roster, you have to make subtractions. And I was surprised with Carlito in the sense that he’s in the middle of, you know, the Judgment Day thing, and you know, they have regular TV time,” added Meltzer.

Dave Meltzer concluded that with the influx of new talent, existing ones had to be released. These included those who were older in age, indicating towards R-Truth and Carlito, and those who were failing to make an impact. He said, “If you’re not being used in a program and you’re not like this major superstar, you’re in danger. And older—older is worse than younger, obviously.”

With veterans like R-Truth and Carlito no longer with the company, WWE is indeed looking to head in a new direction. With these decisions as part of their internal restructuring, it remains to be seen if any more stars would find themselves out of the global juggernaut.
