A new rumor claims WWE is interested in reuniting with Mistico, the man once known as Sin Cara.
Over the last year, WWE has made a strong push to grow its Spanish-speaking fan base. They already had Rey Mysterio, his son Dominik Mysterio, and Legado Del Fantasma. However, in the last year, they re-signed Andrade, signed Penta and his brother Rey Fenix, and of course the acquired legendary Mexican promotion AAA.
There have also been recent rumblings that the company’s talent evaluators would be looking at talent from CMLL competing at this month’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico event. Well, it seems one particular talent caught their eye. And he just so happens to be a guy who previously wrestled for the company.
On Friday, Wrestling Observer Newsletter claimed that the company has an interest in poaching Mistico from CMLL. Mistico has become the top star in the iconic Mexican promotion during a boom period for the brand. Signing him away would certainly hurt CMLL while helping AAA.
Mistico signed with WWE in 2011 and performed under the name of Sin Cara. Despite a big build to his debut, he had difficulty adapting to the company’s wrestling style. That, along with backstage issues, led to his release three years later.
He has stated in recent years that he would like to return to the company to prove the doubters wrong about his ability to be a star in the US.
