A new report claims that former multi-time WWE tag champ Shayna Baszler is returning to the company, but not in the role you might expect.

The former NXT Women’s Champion was one of the big names among over a dozen WWE wrestlers cut in the spring. There has been speculation that Baszler could take her talents to TNA or All Elite Wrestling following her release. But it seems her time away from WWE won’t be long.

On Wednesday, Bodyslam.net reported that “Shayna Baszler was listed as a producer for last night’s episode of NXT.” That report was later confirmed by Fightful. They added that the company “is seeing how things go in that role for her.”

It is surprising that Baszler is not looking to continue her wrestling career with TNA or AEW. But it is possible that the pair of companies passed on signing her. Although she would seem like a great fit for TNA. However, she is 44 years old and has a ton of wear and tear on her body.

She has been wrestling for WWE since 2017. However, before she signed with the company, she had an extensive 14-year career in cage fighting. So it does make sense if she would prefer to end her career now. However, working with NXT backstage might also include a chance to compete on occasion for the brand.

Shayna Baszler was one of the best women’s champions in NXT history. She had a unique style and intensity that made her stand out. She would definitely be a benefit to the talented prospects at the Performance Center.
