A notable wrestling industry reporter claims that a pair of prominent tag teams on WWE Smackdown are headed toward a breakup soon.
The tag team division in WWE has started to heat up in 2024. Despite the breakup of the legendary Usos and the two teams that preceded them as champions no longer being together, the division seems to be as strong as ever due to a recent influx of talent.

On Smackdown, legendary TNA Wrestling team The Motor City Machine Guns have made a huge impact right away and now holds the titles of that brand. Finn Balor and JD McDonagh control the gold on Raw. The War Raiders recently made their return. The New Day are as interesting as they have been in a while. And NJPW greats Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa have already held gold in the company in their first year.
Yet, it looks like a pair of teams that were recently in the running for the Smackdown tag titles could soon be going their separate ways.
Dave Meltzer suggests DIY and the Street Profits head toward a breakup
In a new edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio” reporter Dave Meltzer claimed that MCMG has filled the role DIY had on Smackdown as “The small team that’s really, really good workers.” Because of that, a breakup is probably coming.
After their loss to MCMG last week, WWE seemed to hint at dissension between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. They have now failed twice at trying to reclimb the ladder back to the tag titles after losing them to Tonga and Loa in the Summer.
However, Meltzer also believes another team on Smackdown is headed for a break-up, and that is The Street Profits.
“For a long time there’s been a push from people who think that Montez Ford should be a singles star,” Meltzer said [h’t Wrestling Inc.]. “He’s been resisting it because most people figure it’s gonna be one of those things like … [Dawkins] will probably kind of fall into nowhere land.”
The long-running duo has failed multiple times over the last few months at regaining the tag titles. After a failed run as heels and a return to being babyfaces in the summer, a breakup seems like the next evolution in the careers of Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.
