NXT boss Shawn Michael suggested this week that there are big surprises planned for the brand’s CW Network debut and beyond.
WWE’s developmental brand NXT has developed some serious momentum in 2024. After a disappointing revamp led by former company Chairman Vince McMahon, NXT has returned to its classic black-and-gold vibes. Distancing themselves from the lackluster 2.0 era that relied heavily on younger talent.

Recently Shawn Michaels has signed more veteran talent. Plus their working relationship with TNA Wrestling has benefited both sides and returned a cool factor to NXT that it has not had in several years. However, tonight, the red-hot brand begins a new direction with the start of its television deal with CW Network. To make the biggest impact possible the company is likely to have some fun surprises in store on Tuesday. And “HBK” confirmed as much recently.
“There are other big, big surprises coming down the pike. If you thought we were stacked before, you haven’t seen anything yet. And that goes on both sides of the roster,” Michaels told Sports Illustrated last week when speaking about NXT’s strong women’s roster.
So what surprises could be coming from the black-and-gold brand? Here are four options that might arrive in the weeks ahead.
4 potential surprises Shawn Michaels has planned for NXT’s debut on CW Network
Motor City Machine Guns make NXT debut
The legendary TNA tag team Motor City Machine Guns have been rumored to make their NXT debut tonight. It seems like the perfect time for it to happen and the duo brings a level of prestige to the brand that it hasn’t seen in this decade. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are two of the best performers of this era yet to compete in a WWE. All signs point to this being the most likely surprise planned by the company.
Shawn Michaels brings TNA star Moose to NXT
Multi-time TNA world champion Moose has publicly pushed to be included in the crossover between NXT and TNA. With the relationship seeming to work well for both sides, bigger names showing up on the other company’s content seems likely. There are few more well-known names in TNA than Moose. And he would be a major surprise if he walked through the forbidden door on CW Network.
Bloodline relative Hikuleo makes NXT debut
WWE reportedly inked Bloodline relative Hikuleo to a contract months ago. Most assumed the NJPW veteran was expected to join the ongoing saga on the main roster. However, recent rumors have suggested the talented prospect could first begin his run in NXT. The black-and-gold brand getting a member of the legendary wrestling families would be smart business from Shawn Michaels.
NXT’s new relationship with Marigold revealed
Michaels claimed NXT has one of the best women’s rosters in the world. They don’t but he could be playing the role of ultimate salesman for his brand. Or he may know something we don’t. What that could be is a potential working relationship with Rossy Ogawa’s Japanese promotion Marigold.
WWE has a friendship with the former Stardom boss and bringing in Japanese women’s wrestler could certainly boost “HBK’s” stance about how good his female division is.
