A new rumor claims WWE could be looking to bolster AAA’s roster with talent from the upcoming AEW Grand Slam: Mexico event.
One of the biggest stories from WrestleMania 41 last month was the news that WWE had acquired legendary Mexican wrestling promotion AAA. The company will be another brand under the WWE umbrella, just like NXT, SmackDown, and Raw. Which means they are looking to make the roster as strong as possible. And that could include talent from AEW Grand Slam: Mexico.
This week, Wrestling Observer reported that WWE will be keeping a close eye on the June 18 event that will feature AEW and CMLL talent.
Current NXT Women’s champion Stephanie Vaquer was in a featured match at Forbidden Door in June of last year. Her bout with Mercedes Mone at the event caught the eye of talent evaluators. Her CMLL contract was not iron-clad, and she was able to get out of it to make the move to WWE. The company is expected to use the same strategy if any Mexican stars steal the show at Grand Slam next month.
CMLL is the oldest and most successful wrestling promotion in Mexico. However, with the financial might of WWE backing AAA, the tide could quickly turn as some CMLL stars switch sides because they feel the competition offers a clearer path to WWE.
The global leader in wrestling locked up a boatload of current AAA stars to new contracts to make sure they will be a part of the company for their long-term plans.
