WWE SmackDown is set to make an exciting addition to its roster with the talented luchador known as Rey Fenix. With his debut taking place on the upcoming edition of SmackDown, it seems that WWE might have already decided on his first opponent.
Rey Fenix became a household name in the United States for his stint in AEW and other independent promotions. However, after being on the sidelines for months, he was finally released by AEW in March. The news was quickly followed by speculation that he would make a long-rumored jump to WWE to join his brother Penta.
Last week on SmackDown, the company officially unveiled his signing with a vignette the state he would make his company debut on the April 4th edition of the show. Well, a new report might have revealed who will be his first opponent.
Will Rey Fenix make his WWE debut in a match against Andrade?
According to a new report by WrestleVotes on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass Q&A, a backstage segment with current Andrade El Dolo and general manager Nick Aldis was supposed to happen recently. However, it was cut from the show.
“Don’t know for sure, but I can go back to the SmackDown three weeks ago, the one from Italy. Written in the show before the Liv Morgan vs. Jade Cargill match, there was to be a backstage segment with Nick Aldis telling Andrade that there was a new talent coming to SmackDown, and he would want him to work with them first,” Wrestle Votes claimed.
“That segment got cut. It was not supposed to be on last week’s show, so I don’t know where it stands. However, that would indicate to me that at least they had plans, at the minimum, for Andrade vs. Rey Fenix. We’ll see if that happens.”
Rey Fenix and Andrade have battled each other once on an episode of AEW Rampage in 2022. The duo produced a stellar showdown showcasing their respective luchador in-ring style. Making him a great option to display Fenix’s style at its best to new fans.
