WWE has acquired one of the top international wrestling promotions in the world, AAA.
With Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Nick Khan now steering the WWE ship, the company is headed in very different directions. That includes working with the various other wrestling companies in the industry. Their most notable relationship is between TNA and NXT. Well, it seems the gold and black brand will be working with another major promotion.
“NXT Worlds Collide taking place at the Kia Forum on June 7th with AAA,” Wrestle Votes reported in an X post following Saturday’s NXT’s Stand and Deliver event.

However, soon after the news made its way online, WWE hinted at a major announcement on the WrestleMania 41 kickoff show. That reveal wasn’t just a partnership for an event, instead, it was announced that the company had officially acquired AAA.
What could WWE’s AAA acquisition mean for the wrestling business
For decades, WWE founder Vince McMahon was unwilling to work with his competitors in the industry. The only company he ever really worked with was ECW, and that may have been due to a level of guilt because he would go on to borrow liberally from their approach to the business.
But these are very different times. And now WWE has cultivated partnerships with All Japan, GCW, and TNA over the last year. There had been rumblings for some time about working with promotions in the wrestling hotbed that is Mexico. The ongoing partnerships have been beneficial for all involved, so it should not come as a surprise that the company is continuing that goodwill south of the border.
However, acquiring Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, a company that began in the early 90s, is a huge step into the Mexican market for the company. The early indications are that the brand will still maintain its current leadership, but now it will just have the financial backing of WWE.
One can only assume that there will be many crossovers between WWE and AAA talent in the months and years ahead.
