
An interesting new report reveals some momentum building backstage toward a massive matchup between John Cena and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
With 2024 nearly over, the calendar will turn to the new year and an event WWE fans can’t wait for. And that is the start of the John Cena retirement tour. The legendary wrestler announced in the summer that he will not just have a retirement match, but he will use all of 2025 to give one final goodbye to his legion of fans.

Since the big reveal, there has been speculation for months about some of the competitors he could face over the limited amount of dates he will be available. As well as who will be his opponents for his final Survivor Series, SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania matches.
There have been a lot of rumors about who he will battle in his final WrestleMania. And a new report suggests he could be competing for gold in one of the main events of the two-night event.
Backstage push for John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes match at WrestleMania 41 intensifies

“Currently, the majority of the talk has circled around the idea of Cody Rhodes vs. Cena at Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship,” PW Insider reported on Friday. “We have heard that match mentioned by numerous sources over the last two weeks, as recently as yesterday.
“It should be pointed out that many of those sources have noted that everything is subject to change. Especially if The Rock descends down from “Mountain Rock” (as one person joked) and wanted to work with either Cody or Cena at Wrestlemania, at which point any creative plans would be reworked to fit into Rock’s vision.”
Earlier this week it was revealed that there was pushback by some backstage toward a rumored John Cena vs. Logan Paul match at WrestleMania. With the belief being a desire for the WWE icon to have a more important clash at his final ‘Mania.
A matchup with Cody Rhodes, who likely will still be WWE champion at that point would certainly check off a lot of boxes for members of creative that had no interest in a match with Logan Paul.
