A new report offers up a timeline on when Kevin Owens could be back in a WWE ring, and it may not be until after next year’s WrestleMania.
During his nearly decade in WWE, Owens has evolved into one of the company’s most versatile and reliable stars. No matter if he was in NXT or on Monday Night Raw and Smackdown, fans could always count on KO being there and delivering entertaining moments.
However, in such a physically demanding and violent industry, major injuries come for even the most durable talent. And that is now the case with Owens. Two weeks ago, the former Universal Champion revealed that tests found he has a serious neck injury that will require major surgery. It forced him off the WrestleMania 41 card, and there have been rumors that he might need spinal fusion surgery.
That is a surgery WWE fans should be familiar with because it is the same one legends like Randy Orton, Steve Austin, and Edge have all undergone, and it sidelined them for huge amounts of time. A new report this week confirmed it could be at least a year before fans see Owens back in a WWE ring.
Kevin Owens could also miss WrestleMania 42 next year
“In most cases, this type of surgery leads to the person being out 12 to 15 months,” Dave Meltzer reported in a new Wrestling Observer Newsletter. “Although there are other forms of neck surgery that can be done. Tommaso Ciampa, several years back, had a shorter recovery time. Owens put the timetable as six to eight months, or maybe a year.”
That correlates with serious neck injuries. The one positive is that Owens claimed the issues just began earlier this year. And that his body felt very good before things went downhill for his neck. Hopefully, his overall good shape and the fact that they might have caught the injury early could mean he returns from surgery on the lower end of estimates.
