Along with rumors that multi-time women’s champion Charlotte Flair could make a surprise return at WWE Backlash: France, another report claims one of the greatest of all time could make a special appearance at Saturday’s premium live event.
We are just hours away from the pro wrestling world leader’s return to France for WWE Backlash on Saturday. And there is a lot of hype around the event since it is the latest example of the company’s initiative to do more major shows outside the United States to further mine their sizable foreign fanbase.
The card in Lyon, France will see new WWE Universal champion Cody Rhodes in action against future Hall-of-Famer AJ Styles, and several other popular performers competing at the promotion’s return to Europe. However, to make the best impression possible, there have been rumblings of some special surprises at the event.
Could John Cena appear at WWE Backlash: France?
One name that reportedly could appear is women’s division superstar, and multi-time champion, Charlotte Flair. However, she isn’t the only big-name surprise that could be involved with the show. PW Insider’s Elite section is also reporting that none other than the GOAT himself, John Cena, has been seen in the area of WWE Backlash ahead of the event.
While it would be a big surprise for fans in France, it makes a lot of sense considering Cena’s modus operandi in recent years. With his career close to an end he has seemingly been making an effort to appear at international events one final time.
He was in attendance at last year’s Money in the Bank event in the UK as well as the company’s last tour of India. He of course made a memorable appearance at WrestleMania 40 in April after being away for several months following a loss to Solo Sikoa at WWE’s last card in Saudi Arabia.
