A new WWE rumor suggests John Cena and Cody Rhodes’ plans at WrestleMania 41 could be linked.
WWE’s content in 2025 is set up to be really fun for wrestling fans. Their preferred champion Cody Rhodes will be a focal point. The war within the Bloodline is sure to hit new levels. The Rock could be involved in a major storyline. And next year will see John Cena go on a year-long retirement tour.

WrestleMania 41 is still five months away. But it doesn’t mean it is too early for early speculation about some of the featured matches at the event. For quite some time there have been rumors The Rock could compete at ‘Mania and matchups with Cody Rhodes or cousin Roman Reigns were likely. Fans are also curious about who Cena will face in what will be his final WrestleMania match.
Well, in a new episode of Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer speculated on what Rhodes and Cena might actually be doing at the April event and it may surprise some wrestling fans.
Could Cody Rhodes face John Cena at WrestleMania 41?
“They also could do Rhodes vs. Cena with the idea of Cena in his last attempt at winning the title can break Flair’s fictitious 16 number that in WWE history he and Cena are tied at,” Meltzer said. “We do know that the idea of Cena challenging one of the two champions, in an effort to have him break [Ric] Flair’s record is something strongly talked about, including for Mania.”
Before John Cena hangs up his jorts and sneakers a match with Cody Rhodes will happen. And doing it on as big a stage as possible is likely. With the “American Nightmare” being very much the new-age version of Cena, a passing-the-torch moment at a tentpole event would be classic WWE booking. Even with Paul “Triple” Levesque now running the company’s creative.
