A new report claims plans for Jey Uso to win the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble go much further back than fans may believe.
Earlier this month, the most star-studded Royal Rumble in WWE history took place in Indiana. The match featured a boatload of top stars and wrestling legends and sold over 60,000 tickets inside Lucas Oil Stadium. Heading into the event the speculation was that future Hall-of-Famers like CM Punk or John Cena were likely to win. However, fans got a big surprise.

In a stunning moment, tag team legend and former Intercontinental Champion Jey Uso eliminated John Cena to become the 2025 Royal Rumble winner. While Uso is a very popular performer, no one expected him to win such a star-studded match. It was the kind of decision that felt like it was the result of a late change in the creative process.
However, a new report suggests Uso winning the men’s Rumble match was the plan for a very long time.
WWE planned Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble victory weeks ago

Fightful Select reported this week that Jey Uso’s big moment was not a last-minute change. And that the company had him penciled in to win the event quite some time ago. Uso being the winner surprised many because he recently lost a World Heavyweight Title match to Gunther a week before this year’s Rumble.
However, it seems his Saturday Night’s Main Event loss may have been all a part of the plan. The outlet confirmed that his Rumble win was already planned before the SNME loss.
On this past week’s episode of Raw on Netflix, Jey Uso officially announced that he will once again challenge Gunther for his World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 41.
