Bill Goldberg’s return to WWE television might just be sooner than we thought. And it looks like he’s got a very real shot at a high-profile match against one of the company’s top stars : Gunther.
The last time we saw Goldberg was at Bad Blood in October. He was there to confront Gunther after the former World Heavyweight Champion made some comments that really got under his skin. Just weeks before that, Goldberg had said he wanted one last match in WWE.
At the time, he wasn’t actively training. However, earlier this year, he had a stem cell procedure done to sort out issues with his knee, shoulder, and neck. Since then, he has reportedly begun his training for his final match in professional wrestling. This week, a new report added fuel to rumors of his likely opponent.
“According to multiple sources, Goldberg’s name has been floated internally within WWE over the past week — the first time since his Bad Blood appearance and his interactions with Gunther. Feels like the inevitable return is nearing,” according to Wrestle Voltes.
Following the news, Fightful Select claimed a match between the two men has been discussed backstage and is “on the table.” Both men have acknowledged the potential bout in the past. Goldberg has called it a “logical” choice, while Gunther has expressed interest.
With Goldberg back in training and WWE’s 2025 calendar taking shape, the path toward that high-profile retirement match is opening up. Gunther may be waiting on the other side.
