Goldberg’s Match Versus Gunther At SNME May Not Be His Last, According To Industry Insider

Wrestling industry insider Sean Ross Sapp is not sure Bill Goldberg’s scheduled WWE match against Gunther next month will actually be his pro wrestling swan song.

“I want to make this clear. I don’t know for sure that this is his retirement match. It’s what a lot of people assume because it’s Atlanta. It would make sense for it,” Sapp said on Monday’s Fightful Raw Post Show.

The idea of a Goldberg WWE retirement match has been rumored since he made an appearance at October’s WWE Bad Blood event. On that night in Atlanta, he had a verbal altercation with Gunther. The assumption has long been that the moment was meant to set up an eventual match between the two.

That was confirmed on this week’s Monday Night Raw. When the WCW icon confronted Gunther as he celebrated the start of his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion. The 56-year-old challenged the Austrian to a match on the July 12th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The card will serve as counterprogramming against AEW’s All In Texas card.

It would be very surprising if Goldberg vs. Gunther was not the last for the WWE Hall of Famer. Especially since all indications he has given are that he is training for one final match. Furthermore, Goldberg has recently admitted that he has racked up several injuries as he prepares for his return.

However, he opened the door to potential speculation recently when he revealed his ultimate goal to have a match in his religious homeland, Israel.

“I’ll do anything for my faith. Truth be told, my dream was to have my retirement match in Israel,” Goldberg said on “The Claw Pod with Ross & Marshall Von Erich.” “Quite obviously, because of the surroundings right now and over the past five years, it just hasn’t been the right place to do it. I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that I was sorely disappointed that I couldn’t do something in Israel. But retired doesn’t mean dead.”
