While some WWE fans may not be in love with Chad Gable’s new Grande Americano character, it seems management was very pleased with his in-ring debut on this week’s WWE Raw.
Chad Gable is on the short list of WWE talent that is a perfect mix of elite athleticism and high-level technical wrestling abilities. During his stint in the company, the former Olympian has been one of the most reliable in-ring performers on the roster.
However, over the last year, he has expanded his repertoire and become a very entertaining part of Monday Night Raw broadcasts. But he has taken things in an unexpected direction recently with a “trip to Mexico” to learn the secrets of Lucah Libre. So he can beat masked rivals Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee.
That storyline has now included the introduction of a mask and the character El Grande Americano. While Gable refutes being the man in the mask, we all know it’s him. WWE stars dressing up like lucha performers is nothing new. And for some fans, Grande Americano is not their cup of tea. However, for those folks, you better get used to seeing Mr. Americano on WWE TV for the foreseeable future.
El Grande Americano vs. Dragon Lee match gets rave reviews backstage
“I did hear there was some heavy praise coming out of that match last night,” Wrestle Votes reported on a new Sportskeeda Backstage Pass podcast [h/t Wresle News]. “Gable and Dragon Lee killed it. Crowd loved it, people backstage loved it. And that’s no surprise, Chad Gable has been getting this for years, and we know what kind of talent Dragon Lee has.
“So good on both of them. But I did hear that there was some heavy praise backstage for those two men.”
Gable, ahem, Grande Americano and Lee did have a very good match this week. This feud is nowhere close to ending. Nor are we close to the last time fans have seen the mystery man from Mexico.
