In a recent interview, WWE Hall-of-Famer Diamond Dallas Page revealed a pitch he made for a feud with the Rock that Vince McMahon turned down immediately.
When it comes to wrestlers from the 1990s and 2000s, Diamond Dallas Page is one of the most beloved of the era. DDP started his wrestling career at a later age but it did not stop the former WCW manager from making a massive impact on the industry. And becoming one of the company’s most popular performers.

That is why his sad tenue in WWE stings many long-time wrestling fans to this day. Instead of playing to Page’s strengths and previous history, then-WWE boss Vince McMahon chose to insert the former WCW champion into an odd stalker storyline involving the Undertaker and his then-wife Sara Calaway for debut. And things went downhill for his career from there.
In a new interview for Inside the Ropes, Page revealed the idea he originally pitched to McMahon before his WWE debut in 2021.
DDP pitched ‘People’s Champ vs. People’s Champ’ storyline against the Rock
“I said, Vince, I’m the real people’s champion,” Page said. “The Rock isn’t here right now. Let me show up, kill all the lights, [Jim Ross] will say we are having some technical difficulties, and then you hear for the first time ever, ‘Who’s the real people champion?’ Spotlight, ‘You’re looking at him, BANG!’ Rock’s doing that movie. Let’s shoot that. That’s money. They went, ‘Mmm, we really love the stalker thing.'”
Page admits he wished he had respectfully declined the idea and left. Because he believed McMahon would have called him back and went forward with an idea that would have appealed to fans much more. Unfortunately, he chose to go forward with their plans and the rest is disappointing wrestling history.
