It seems that the person behind the bizarre decision to have Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria’s tag title reign last just one day was Becky Lynch.
Heading into WrestleMania 41, there was speculation that Lynch had no plans of returning to the company anytime soon. Yet, just days before the massive event, rumors grew that she would make her grand return this past weekend. And that is exactly what happened.
On night two of WrestleMania 41, Lynch was Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria’s secret partner in her tag title match against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. And the pair of Irish stars were surprisingly victorious. However, their reign lasted just one day as they quickly gave up the belts in a loss to the former champs on Monday’s edition of WWE Raw.
The short title reign had many fans confused about the point of having them win the titles in the first place. Well, it seems the mastermind behind the storyline was none other than multi-time Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
“This whole thing was Becky’s idea,” Bryan Alvarez claimed in a new edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. “I heard about it in advance. ‘Becky wants to come back, she wants to win the title, then turn on Lyra the next night.’ When I heard it, I was like, ‘What? This is an absolutely horrible idea.’
“But as it turns out, her coming back and winning the title, if you went on Twitter after that show, they all cheered Becky and everything, but very shortly thereafter, there were all the ‘Becky Hogan’ posts,” he said. “I didn’t know that her plan involved losing the title. I thought she was gonna turn on Lyra as champions and they’d vacate the title or whatever. But losing the title and turning on her – this all worked out perfectly for a heel turn.”
